    Dear Aidyn,

I hope this letter finds you well and still much intact. Since you left I found that I spent a lot of time sulking and thinking about how you left. I just can’t shake the feeling that-

“Ahem.” A voice interrupted Liliania from her letter and thoughts. She put down the pen and looked up to see who was interrupting her. There stood an extremely beautiful Sin’dorei maiden.  She had long golden silk hair, perfectly neat. Her skin was white and flawless like porcelain.  She had gold rimmed glasses that seemed to make her eyes look larger, and her face more framed.  She wore a fancy elegant robe that showed just how curvy she was. This was a very beautiful Sin’dorei, except for the sour expression on her face. It was a shame to Liliania; such beauty would have been crowned by a smile. “Ahem.” The maiden repeated when Liliania did not respond right away.

Liliania got up from her desk with a smile. “Good afternoon Miss, may I help you with something?”

“Yes, you may,” The maiden replied in a haughty fashion, “Fetch the Matron of this establish, tell her she will have the privilege of speaking with the Lady Ju’eliet Bloodstar.”

Liliania suppressed a groan. If there was one thing she always found unpleasant, it was dealing with nobles. Instead she gave a polite smile. “It’s a pleasure to meet you my Lady; I am Matron Sunsong of this academy and orphanage.” She gave the lady a polite curtsey.

Lady Ju’eliet eyed her up and down, a scour scowl on her face. “No, I think now. Take me to the real matron, there is no way you could be her!”

“I assure you, my lady, I am she.” Liliania responded patiently, “if you like we can get one of my staff to confirm-“

“But you’re so ugly!” the noble protested.

Liliania blinked; stunned by the sudden outburst, she opens her mouth then closed it again. She was sure how to respond to that at all.

“Look at you!” the noble continued, “You have no color in your hair like some kind of waif, you have a skinny face and a big nose, curves like a straight line – oh my god is that stains on your hands? “ Lady Ju’eliet stared at Liliania’s hands, “It is! You have green strains on your hands!” Liliania shoved her hands behind her back. The noble continue to stare at her, “And your skin! It’s such a horrible complexion!”

“Was there something I can do for you my lady?” Liliania asked again, trying her best to ignore the criticism, but still blushing crimson red from the harsh comments.

“Here,” Lady Ju’eliet said, flinging an envelope on the desk, then taking a sack of gold and dropping it next to it. Liliania blinked at the envelope then picked it up and began reading it.  She read it again. She read it a third time. Her hands began to shake, she couldn’t believe the words. She glanced at the leather bag and turned completely scarlet. “So what’s he like? My future husband.”  Lady Ju’eliet asked as she examined her manicure. Liliania stared at her, unable to say anything. She focused all her energy not to burst into tears in front of this horrible woman.

“Hmm, I guess that’s the way he likes them, small, silent and ugly.” Lady Ju’eliet said as if to her. She then studied Liliania clearly expecting something from her.  Liliania continued to be silent, unable to speak. “Ugh, it has no manners either. You think with it being so common, it would be bowing before me, thanking me for being in my presence, let alone having me as a messenger.”

Liliania looked up at this other woman, no, that was wrong. She was the other woman. This was the fiancée, the spouse, and Liliania was the mistress, the whore. Her mind scrambled for something to day, her tongue felt like heavy baked clay.

Lady Ju’eliet smirked smugly at her then said, “If it’s any cancelation, I will have no trouble with  him keeping you as the mistress, just as long as you don’t give him any STDs, last thing I need is to pick up something so common. Of course that’s really up to Lady D’annica since she is still the head of the household. He won’t be able to claim that right until he obtains an heir.” The noble then grins at Liliania, “Speaking of which, how is he in bed?”

Liliania flushed completely scarlet, she concentrated on her breathing to keep calm.

Lady Ju’eliet scoffed, “It’s like talking to a statue.” She then turned and left.

Liliania slumped to her knees as she read the letter one last time. All this time… it was pretend. It wasn’t real. She gave him … so many things. Her fist kiss, her virginity, her heart. She sought to rescue him when she knew he was in danger. She fought any other feelings developing for another. She opened the door to her life for him. And it was all... pretend. She was not the lover she thought she was; she never had wedding bells or a family in her future. She was the whore.

Liliania watched tears plummet down to the paper and her hands, unable to stop them. She was just grateful she didn’t start when she was here. It was bad enough her heart was broken, her ego smashed, she didn’t want to add wounded pride to the list.  She whipped her eyes, and then got up quickly. She had to get out of here. The children shouldn’t see her like this. She was a pillar of strength. She left, praying she wouldn’t meet anyone in the halls. Luckily it was when classes were running, so her prayer was easily answered.

She went to the one place she could think of. Hoping on Leo and flying straight there. A spot in Eversong Woods, where a river meets the ocean and no one was ever around. Not since the west sanctum became abandoned but for mana wraiths. She sat down on the grass facing where the river met the ocean, hugging her knees tightly. She sobbed quietly to herself.

She was Matron Liliania Sunsong, the Whore, and the Fool. The small, silent, ugly commoner who didn’t know what to do now, only that it really hurt.
