Digging Into Dirt

  • Dear Journal,

I've spent my week in Westfall so far. Even though it's quite close to Stormwind, it still feels miles away... and nobody has bothered me all week. Not with my usual concerns anyway.

I have spent this time doing some very down-to-earth church work, which means that I've been helping the people of Westfall with their everyday needs from cooking to farming. Now, I'm not much of a cook, but I know how to boil some water and chop some vegetables and it's still another pair of hands, right? I've been planting seeds, digging up carrots, feeding chickens... the farmlife. It feels good to be doing something which yields immediate results. My help here is far more helpful to these people than it would be to simply give them some gold. A lot still needs to be mended - not the least the hearts of these people.

Westfall was hit hard in the Cataclysm. Many lost a great deal, some lost everything. In addition to the physical labor, I've also offered these people someone to talk to - in confidence. Their spirits haven't been broken, even if their tools are.

Coming here has really given me some perspective on my own life. The few problems I have are quite trivial, compared to the ones these poor people have to face every day. I partly do have young Datherine's sermon to thank for all this, too. Her words made me think... her words are the reason I'm here.
