Ephasia is a compilation of 4 characters...
Jean Grey (From x-men)
Zatanna (The DC character)
Deanna Troi (From start trek then next generation)
River Tam (From Firefly)
Did you guys base your characters/character traits on anything external? Draw inspiration from any other fictional characters?
Just curious if I was the only one who did this.
Alysdair has changed a lot from his original inception.
Originally his character was part Sherlock Holmes (socially awkward, eccentric, observational).
Over the year-and-a-half, he's started to develope some Bruce Wayne (not Batman) into him: Wealthy bachelor with a new girl every episode hanging on his arm, etc.
Vasilis. Vasilis has always been based on two things: The proud, independent Scotsman; and the warrior-spirited Mandalorians from Star Wars.
All of my characters are fragments of my own personality broke down. I dont play them as based off of anyone or anything already made from anyone else's fantasy realm or TV land.
Ie: Syvbar is the challenging side of my spirituality. I grew up a good person ( still am a good person) I was a girl scout and an acolyte of my church...but I have my own personal beliefs and passion not neccesarly supported by the church.
Syvbia is the protective mother in me as well as the shade of darkness.
Cymbol: is the person I never was or will be .. the filthy rich society- stuck up- Prep-girl.
*I break down the other characters I play in similar fashion.
I'm with Lil. Most of what Wenna is, I gathered from real life sources, because that's FAR more imaginative than anything I could possibly come up with. My sister was a fount of eccentricities, and from thence came many useful hooks.
Though I will say Wen's tendency to not take any crap from anyone has a strong sense of Donna Noble to it. And the red hair, too. However, I should say that's something I came up with retroactively, and I wasn't TRYING to base her on anything in particular.
And I have no idea where the whip came from. But it's damn fun and you'd better beleive she's keeping it.
Jaffar Randal - Based off a main protagonist from a Forgotten Realms novel I enjoyed.
Grayson Burchard - Based off of real life survival experts like Les Stroud and Bear Grylls. Along with Grizzly Adams.
Nozshar - Cartoon or Disney villains in that I try to add some random comic relief to his otherwise angry and arrogant personality.
Wyst - was just me as I was at 15 or so. It is a good template to start at , then I grow from there.
Anlya- is my mom, both in tolerance, needing to help and a huge load of prissyness
Miresong - is my antisocial I don't care die already, and when on her I usually do not want to interact.
The others come and go like dreams, sometimes rehashing old themes, sometimes taking the template (wyst) and starting over to see where i end up this time. So much can change if one changes society, morals, abilities.. yet keeps the base personality in tact.
Daarthu is heavily based off of my father, bulky arrogant and most defently honorable. He has seen alot and accepts it, whether its a loss or a win, it doesn't make much difference to him. He just needs to uphold the light.
Vaeiran is based off (VERY LOOSLY!) of Drizzt Do'Urden, cunning silent and has a lust for battle, yet he keeps himself comfrotable, even some of his Backstory is devilish, and he refuses to acknowaldge it.
Hmm. My characters had schticks to start them but weren't based on role models, except for Fashenal. As noted in his bio, he comes from "Han Solo smuggler, Aramis swashbuckler seducer, Errol Flynn, Sharon Shinn fantasies, and the like." He's just a hunky egotistical agile swashbuckling con man! And I think he has some D'Artagnan in him as well, he tends to go head over heels for his current lady love. "The Sting" or "The Great Train Robbery" show my idea of his kind of con, too.
Issa was sparked by a WAR promo interview in which the promoter was going on and on about mages and elves and the like, and said among other things "Elves are rich people wot are on crack." Which seemed to suit the coming Belf concept nicely. Add in a lot of pseudo-Victorian etiquette, gemcutting for extra flash, and voila. I'll admit that her tendency to say "La!" comes from a character from the Caroline Stevermeyer novel _The College 0f Magics_ who said that upon occasion.
Jenafeine was prompted by the random character generation screen. I knew she'd be a priest scribe, to fit the needs of raiding, and the first random look was pale and serious looking with a plain hair bun. Since Issa was so flamboyant and rich, I made Jena shy and socially awkward and poor. It grew from there. I don't think I can point to any character model for her.
Frelle also grew from a basic schtick, in her case a nelf priest who loved tinkering with bombs. Maybe there's some Rain Man in her? She became a semi-autistic gnome-like genius. In-game RP shaped her more than any outside models.
Vigil (or Aetherius by his ingame name) is drawn from alot of inspirations. I have to say, some of his largest are:
Captain Jack Harkness (Torchwood)
Roland Deschain (Stephen King's The Dark Tower)
Nick Fury (Marvel Universe)
John Constantine (DC Comics)
I am sure I am missing some others but that is what I can think of at the moment.
Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage from the Naruto Mange/Anime (He makes plants grow!)
The treefolk from the Magic: The Gathering plane of Lorwyn.
Madorius Blue is, in more ways than one, myself. Everything he says in-game are mostly the things I would say in response to such situations in real life. Many people will find that my IC and OOC conversations are hard to tell apart because of the things I say ( for example: 'I was a _____________ once!' ). In a sense, Madorius is myself with the added history I've always dreamt of having. A kind-hearted, yet brutal warrior who is very protective of those he loves. He's developed a lot in the past... half a year or so, and I look forward to the changes that are sure to be made in the future with all of the wonderful Earthen Ring RPers I'm surrounded by. :)
My answer is in two parts: the name, and the character.
Orngart... That's a name I've used for a long, long time--long before Warcraft. My grandfather runs D&D campaigns with me, v3.5. One of my favorite characters I made was a half-orc barbarian, named Orngart. He had HUGE strength for his level, and was a sight to behold in battle. He relished the rush of war, the warmth of blood, the bite of steel. And while he was not very smart, he was not someone to be trifled with.
As for character inspiration, he takes lots of traits from the peons of the main games (I never played them; had to do some digging to get a good idea what they were like). He also has some traits from the lovable Mongo from Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles (Orngart only pawn in game of life...).
A long time ago, when i was about ten or eleven years old I watched Dragon Heart. I developed Noh (Reinheit, as you guys know her) and she took on some aspects from the dragon in the movie. Over time, I learned about other personality types (especially in anime) and I gave her a more darker and arrogant side.
If any of you play Samurai Warriors, you can probably see some resemblence of her and Nohime (Nobunaga's first Wife).
From then on other aspects started spilling into her from the things I loved at the time, like Horo (From Spice and Wolf).
But one of the major characters she takes after is Maleficent; the antoganist of Sleeping Beauty. I really loved her when I was young! (Haha, I seem to have a thing for mean/evil women. o_O)

Sehrissa is Rapunzel. Not the Tangled version and really, more of the concept of girl is cut off from the world holed up in a tower. In Sehrissa's case, for thousands of years. Sehri is the embodyment of what long term isolation does to someone. That and Indiana Jones. Hapless treasure hunter who never gets to keep the treasure who then gets into more complicated situations due to said treasure.
Ihluriel wasn't based off any one thing in particular. It was more of a "I wonder how I would play a woman who has forgotten she's a woman entirely."(and by that I mean, she shifted to a druid form out of fear when very young and hadn't had enough training to remember how to shift back, eventually, she just assumed she was a large cat) Kind of an experiment to see if I could pull it off without it coming across as stupid. I think I've done all right so far. ;D
Nehvariel was me wanting to stick to Night Elf lore as I saw it. I wanted to play a very traditional Night Elf Sister of Elune.
Spike is an incredibly complex character--I'm not even sure I'm RP'ing him the way I've planned to.
Name comes from my standard internet handle, which I forget the origin of. It happens to be a good name for a Goblin, though.
Spike's character is composed of four main characters that I adore (one of which is a real person, but whose life is almost too incredible to be real).
James Bond -- The most famous spy ever, Ian Fleming's brainchild is the kind of guy everyone wants to be. From Bond, Spike gets his cunning, his cool demeanor, the ability to silently laugh in the face of danger, and a taste for dry martinis... shaken, not stirred.
Arsene Lupin -- The original Gentleman Thief, Lupin is one helluva cool character. He *announced* when he would steal something, just for the sake of challenge. Spike gets that hunger for challenge from Lupin, as well being a "gentleman thief".
Frank W. Abagnale -- The ultimate con man and a master of disguise, he made $2.5 million in the 60's off of forged checks--before he was old enough to drink. He is chiefly responsible for many of the security measures against fraud nowadays--he was so damn good, the FBI hired him (after his 12 year sentence). From Abagnale, Spike gets his elusiveness, his ability to disguise, and a way with words.
Sly Cooper -- The latest in a line of master thieves, Sly is one of my favorite game characters: a cunning, devious, Thevious Raccoonus. From Sly, Spike gets his agility, his wit, an ancestry of thievery, a taste for revenge, and his fondness for the phrase "honor among thieves".
Eliona is socially awkward, and sometimes comes across as rude, yet she always has kind intentions. She also has a bit of a mischievous side within her.
She does have some traits from the following characters:
Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter
Nagisa Furukawa from Clannad
Amelie Poulain
Salixa: she's loosly based on an Appalachian granny healer. Or the village crone/midwife/wisewoman type person. Also a fair amount of hippie influence. The interest in gardening and plantlore are really just things I love irl. Some of her habits and odd quirks are based on her name. (I know this will probably sound VERY odd) Salix(willow) alba(white) She cries a lot, always going on emotion and instinct instead of logic and reason. Flexible but grounded.
Daytura: Lorena, from True Blood show. An evil crazy jealous OCD very vengeful bitch.
Scarlett O'Hara, she looks like a young slightly chubby Vivian Leigh. The desperate war widow. She appears to be a well mannered and aristocratic lady. But will use anyone or do anything to get what she needs.
I also named her after a plant only this one Datura metel, an extremely poisonous hallucionagenic vine. That's Dayt. A climber, gorgeous, pleasurable, and DEADLY. She also has some of my personal interests; knitting, over indulgence, lazy.
When I first made Veleth the only thing I based him on was his hair, because back when I was twelve I was a huge Sephiroth fan boy. When I started RPing I molded him around the RP that I had, the only thing I actually had for him is "I'm awesome, deal with it." But recently I've noticed that either I gave Veleth my temper or I got my temper from Veleth, it's just he has the ability to act on it with an axe.
