The Future of MMOs and Your Plans

Yep. I know everyone saw this coming. With all the buzz about SWTOR and GW2, many of us are looking towards the future of gaming, and some of us, myself included, are debating that fifteen a month we spend towards WoW. So my question to you all; what are your plans? Are you going to stick to WoW? Are you going to change games, or perhaps play both?

Personally, I will be giving Guild Wars 2 a good go, being the game that excites me the most. I play WoW right now really not for the content, but for the community, which is all of you guys whom I have grown to love. I have a lot of friends in this game that keep me active, and that will most likely be the deciding factor when I look at if I'll be hanging up my hat in WoW. I'll miss a whole lot of people, but all good things must end, including WoW.

I do hope this won't be the end of many friendships however. If it is at all possible over the next few months, I'd like to see if we can arrange perhaps a chart if you so choose so we may find each other again in new games, if you decide as many including me might that it's time for something new. What are your thoughts on these topics?

WoW is my only PC game as I mainly play consoles, so I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.

I'm not a Star Wars fan, but I am looking forward to Diablo 3. If anything, I might take a break from WoW to try something else, and if I quit altogether, it will be because of school, not another video game.

Syv:   I was about 13 years old when Starwars  came out  back in the day when it came out. Up until that point, I was a StarTrek fan ( still am). I also  enjoyed  ( original ) BSG ( never got into the new one).  With this  said... and as the threshold of my 47th  Birthday slowly creeps up on me ( a few months  from now)  O-o.  I can say with out regret  that I think I have had my fill of SW. ( or pretty much any space odyssey for that matter). Im not saying I no longer like   SW, Trek or any space adventure, but that after growing up with it as a part of my "make believe world"...( since before most of you were even thought of...).  Seven years in WOW- in comparrison, just hasnt  worn old on me yet.

Asides that, I am already paying the WOW house hold bill of 6 accounts- that is  75 dollars a month. I really can't afford another addiction. Wow has taken so much of my time that, I have neglected  other hobbies that I have grown to enjoy. So  if by chance, Wow population does take a hit  and  the Rp dies  down to a near stand still. I will keep Rp  segments close net and  delve into my other hobbies.

I am looking forward to D3  as well. If it is FREE  through Battle net like  D2  was... Im there- when time allows. I am a big Diablo fan as well, I was in that game ( Hard core ladder mode)  for nearly  5 years until WOW  came out. --lol.

Other then D3- there are no other PC games and /or addictions I forsee taking my immediate interest.

I have found myself totally psyched by GW2.  I even have my first RP character figured out (it helps that there's an RP guild waiting for him and he'll be akin to Fashenal).

The more I've seen of SW the less I've wanted to play it.  It simply does not thrill me, and yes, I saw the first SW movie when it came out and was old enough to remember it but not quite old enough to realize how groundbreaking it was.  Perhaps my disappointment with all the subsequent films (even Empire and Return) affects this, though I was loving TOR from the trailers and only got disenchanted by gameplay videos.

I am very lucky to have money not be an issue barring medical or employment disaster.  Still, I can't see subscribing to TOR but I can easily see splurging on GW2 and extra character slots.

One nice thing about GW2 is you only buy it once.  Thus people don't have to pick between it and another MMO except inasmuch as one only has so much time to spend on play.

Will I leave WoW?  There's no way to tell.  I never expected to leave Horizons for WoW.  I never expected to leave Alliance for Horde.  My play patterns just shifted over time.  I've found myself not so much into WoW-the-game lately -- but the explosion of RP we've had has sucked me right back in to loving my time in game.

I already jump from game to game. Thus I will probably visit Swtor and come back. As long as there is something in wow I desire to do, I will return

Forgot about Wildstar Online, which is a game I'm keeping an eye on.

I was originally jazzed for SWTOR. I had a character planned and everything. I was going to be a badass Imperial Agent, it was going to be great. But the more I heard and saw about the game the less enthused I became about it. It appears simply to be a new WoW mechanically with awkward pacing and a new coat of paint. I was never really enthused with the voice acting aspect (I decide what my character sounds like, and different inflections can say the complete opposite of what I'm going for). Unless something completely changes my mind, I'm going to end up giving it a pass.

GW2 could be a different story. It's F2P, meaning I wont have to invest hardly anything to try it out. It's different mechanically, and its class system looks interesting. I know next to nothing about the lore, however.

Well, I'm doing a lot to try to find ways to buy subscriptions for both WoW and SWTOR. idk that I can choose at this point. Apples to oranges imo.

But I do know if I can't get the money to do them both at the same time I'll be alternating every other month.

While I'll be on SWTOR for a while (and still have some WoW storylines to finish up) the only place I can see myself going as a *permanent* move is Secret World. Conspiracy-themed MMO? I'm there.

What I've seen of TOR has yet to impress me, despite my love of sci fi and future fantasy. I may end up trying it out, but it's definitely getting the 3-6 month observation from me.

GW2 looks interesting, but it's still too far out.

WoW remains my drug of choice.

I'm diving headfirst into SW:TOR, but keeping my WoW subscription. After I've played SW for a bit, I'll re-evaluate the WoW sub.

I'm gonna stick with WoW. Raiding is my main concern in an MMO, and despite Dragon Soul's distinct lack of epicness, WoW still is the overall best game out there for raiders. I was also originally excited about SWTOR, but it's just not impressed me, not to mention the fact that there's only four classes and the "raids" they have at endgame are apparently even more accessable and not to be taken seriously.

Guild Wars 2 does look amazing though, I really get the sense that it is a game where a good player can  stand out, and tests players in more ways than just following the Elitistjerks.com rotations and specs. Especially since it will be free to play, I intend to try the crap out of it.
