For Love of Fashion: RP Outfit Q&A

  • August 8, 2011 8:09:39 PM EDT

Thought I'd start a thread to discuss potential ideas for RP outfits as well as any questions for those in search of that perfect set.

I'll start us off. I'm looking for the blue leather pieces that the Sha'tari Skyguards wear. Any ideas?

As far as I know, the only pieces that share that look are the upgraded tier .5 set from Shadowcraft, Darkmantle, which is no longer acquirable. I think there's a shoulder piece off-set that has the same appearance, but the rest is either difficult or impossible to find. I think Rahzu has the only complete set on the server, actually.

http://roleplaygear.wordpress.com/2010/01/16/shadowcraft-recolour/ is the set. The original was removed yes, but the blue recolor is still in game. Not 100% perfect, but available for non-rogue classes and still the general theme.

Yeah, that exact set is tier 0.5 which was a pain in the butt to upgrade to!

There are indeed identical matches for the chest and shoulders, but not for the rest of it.

I have the complete set of mage tier 0.5... and I wear it anytime I need something guaranteed to be unique. It's -gorgeous-... sorcerers is in magisters style but in two or three different shades of purple, more intricate embroidery than magisters has, with silver trim, and glowing blue gemstones.

But, it's true, I don't see many people at all who bothered to collect their recolored class set. Part of the problem was that the set was intended as an epic set for people who don't raid... but by the time they introduced T0.5, raiding for T1 or T2 was -easier- than the T0.5 quest chain. So not many people got it.

Next challenge: The Steampunk Look I was inspired by the [Scrap Metal Shield] which is a reward from the Samophlange quest in the Barrens. [The Peacekeeper] blade is a nice sword to go with it. How about some ideas for armor?

That's a really nice weapon combination for a steampunk look. To give a more detailed set of recommendations I'd need to know what class you're shooting for, but I'm at least going to guess that this is for a plate wearer.

I've always thought that the crafted Cobalt set had a nice, chunky look that'd go well with a shield like that. I believe it may have some recolors out there if blue isn't your color scheme, specifically I know that the plate shoulders from the Dungeon Finder bags are a brownish version of this set.

Otherwise you might take a look at the Warrior Unsets and the Paladin Unsets. They're all farmable from Outlands instances and raids, and they're wearable by any platewearer. I saw someone pull off a fairly good engineer-themed set with the recolored Redemption set.

At the mention of a shield I realize that you're probably not a DK, but I simply have to point out the Deadly Gladiator's Desecration set. I wish I could have that one for my goblin warrior, the cracked paint look is fantastic for a bashed up gladiator look. If there's something similar out there for warrior / paladins then I think it'd be worth checking out.

Thanks for the suggestions Uraka. Goblin Warrior is the character I'm building this set for.

Here's two sets I thought looked pretty cool. I think the first one has more of a "gears and rivets" look, while the second matches the blue and brass of the shield and sword you'd picked out. The first set is available in the mid to late 40's range from quests and dungeon drops. The second is the Baleheim Armor world drop set available around level 70.

Also, the Pauldrons of Tempered Will and other such shoulders have a cool vaguely steamish look, though I couldn't find a mix and match set that I liked with them. Maybe you'll have better luck!

Found some more Steampunk / Gearwork stuff:

Argent Resolve and Gizlock's Hypertech Buckler

Taking the cue from Uraka, I found the matching armor set for the Pauldrons of Tempered Will. I slapped it on a gobbo with the rest of the RP gear and it's unique to say the least, though trudging through Ulduar doesn't exactly appeal to me.
