Want to create that special poster, but don't have the right font to make it look rugged? Or maybe you want to type in elvish? What about making the text look like its on fire or frozen? Then you need a special font!

    Why use a Special Font?
Whenever you type something to accompany a piece of art, the font can either add to the mood of the image, or subtract from it. The wrong combination of a font can leave your poster looking fake or unbalanced.

Here is an example of how Fonts can add to the message you are trying to convey. If you look below, you'll see an advertisement for an activity night at the office. I used a default arial font for the text. The image of batting heads off of zombies is neat, but for the poster itself looks a little dull.

Because this is a zombie based poster, I wanted a zombie looking font. In this case, I replaced the arial text with a font called Lugosi (OT1), which I found on dafonts by typing in the search word 'zombie'. As you can see, this makes a big difference!

    Where can I find Fonts?
www.Dafont.com is where I go for all my fonts needs. Finding webpages that offer fonts are easy, but finding fonts that are free can be annoying. If you go to a place like www.fonts.com, you will find many fonts but you have to purchase them. At Dafont, about 95% of the fonts I come across are free, or it states free for personal use. It is easy to download, and its easy to type in your text in the custom preview window to see what it looks like in those particular fonts.

    Do Fonts cost money?
Most fonts do require you to purchase a license to use them, but only for commercial use. If you are going to sell your artwork or use it as part of a charity event, you will require the license which can range from $5-500 depending on how big the font family is and its popularity. For things like character journals, roleplaying, and casual art, you can use them for free unless said otherwise in the user agreement.

    How do I Install Fonts?
When you download a font, the key files you need are known as .ttf, .otf or .fon. How you install this font is different depending on your operating system. Go to Dafont.com Help Page for more Info, or contact me in-game.

    Windows Vista/7

      1. Select the font files (.ttf, .otf or .fon) then Right-click > Install

    Windows XP

      1. Place the font files (.ttf, .otf or .fon) into the Fonts folder, usually C:\Windows\Fonts or C:\WINNT\Fonts
      2. If you can't find the folder, go to the Start Menu > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Fonts)

    MAC OS X 10.3 (+)

      1. Double-click the font file > "Install font" button at the bottom of the preview.

    MAC OS X

      1. Put the files into /Library/Fonts (for all users),
      2. If this doesn't work, go into /Users/Your_username/Library/Fonts (for you only).

I Installed my new font, But why can't I see it?
Restart the application you are using. Fonts are loaded when you first launch an applicatio, so if you installed a font when that application was running, it won't acknowledge it until the next time you launch it. A computer restart is never required to see new fonts.
